Walking lines…..
This latest exploration continues a current fascination with the physical act of walking, the connection of my body as it moves through space in a particular place/landscape - and how, when this memory is evoked, it can be translated to marks on paper with the hand….. Body memory, mind memory, image, perception, proprioception, feeling, all coming together in marks.
These are the original ink sketches on paper, done with a broad, flat brush, working quickly, intuitively, as I contemplated/remembered walking through Kalimna forest near Castlemaine….working from the body memory of the place: the rough, rocky paths, winding my way through heavily coppiced Box-Ironbark forest degraded by decades of gold-mining in the 19th century….
